Welcome to Papa Buck’s BBQ, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Metter, Georgia. If you're craving authentic barbecue, look no further than this beloved local spot located at 1085 S Lewis St. With its homey atmosphere and a menu that celebrates the rich flavors of traditional Southern cooking, Papa Buck’s has quickly become a favorite amongst locals and travelers alike.
One of the standout features of Papa Buck’s BBQ is their commitment to quality and freshness. Each dish is crafted with care, from their succulent pulled pork to the tender brisket that patrons rave about. As William L. noted in his glowing review, it's hard to find barbecue this juicy anywhere else in the area. And let’s not overlook the sides; the creamy macaroni and cheese and sweet potato soufflé are highly recommended accompaniments that elevate your meal to a new level of indulgence.
The menu caters to all ages with a delightful kids' menu. Little ones will love options like the Grilled Cheese and the Pork Slider, all served with a drink for just $4 and $5 respectively. As a parent, it feels good to know that you can treat your kids to something satisfying without breaking the bank.
While many reviewers highlight the fantastic barbecue, the burgers deserve a spotlight too. Take a bite of Jay's Tiger Burger, an All-American patty topped with Swiss cheese, grilled onions, and pickles. Each burger is made fresh to order, which may require a short wait, but trust me, it’s worth it.
Even those who have had minor hiccups with side dishes, as noted by Tammy F., still appreciate the overall experience at Papa Buck's BBQ. There’s a warmth about the place that exudes Southern hospitality—gigantic glasses of sweet tea and friendly, efficient service create an inviting feel that’s hard to resist. This is a place where community thrives, and their dedication to serving hearty, satisfying food shines through.

I love the pulled pork but the fries not so good. would recommend changing up their menu and use peanut oil and fresh cut fries..

Nice place, waitress efficient, had ribs and stew- very good.. then bought a chewy cake at register. So much meat on ribs, tender. Lucky to find this place off of hwy going from Georgia to Amelia Island

If you're looking for some of the juiciest, most tender barbecue in the area, this is the place you're looking for! And don't sleep on the sides either! They don't come to play with their Mac n cheese and the sweet potato soufflé is something I would drive hours for! Come give this place a try today!!!

Just off I-16 - Metter exit. You will see the usual fast food joints at that exit, but we like to support local businesses like Papa Buck's. Papa Bucks is clearly a local folks favorite. Nothing fancy! Just clean, with helpful, quick service, gigantic glasses of sweet tea, and most important lots of choices for tasty BBQ. This was our second visit. We'll be back.

We stopped in late afternoon so they weren't busy. The waitress came to take our order quickly. Ordered 2 meat dinner with brisket and ribs. The brisket was tender and juicy. The ribs were okay but not fall off the bone good. I got collards too salty and Italian green beans straight out of the can no seasoning. My husband got fried okra very good and baked beans which were also good. The unsweetened tea was just the way I like it strong and fresh.

Food is amazing Family friendly And very cheap and affordable and not very noisy Everyone there is so nice

Quality bbq spot. Prompt service at the table. Two sauce options -both were flavorful. We had chicken and pork and both were chopped small and tender. Pretty moist I'd say 7 of 10 on taste scale. Salad was super leafy with quality ingredients {much better than expected at a bbq spot} Dec would recommend if in the area. We just were passing through on way back to atlanta.

I love the great tasting food and wonderful customer service. It's a good place to go get a hardy meal!!!

Wow! Papa Buck's is clearly a community favorite and I understand why! We stopped in (based solely off its positive Yelp reviews) on a recent road trip. The tables were full and there was a steady stream of customers at the counter. You know it's a local favorite when you see police AND EMS crews dining alongside you :) Now to the food...I chose the pulled pork sandwich with two sides: fries and fried okra. All good! The fried okra is the best I've had - the seasoning was so good and perfectly crispy! The service was friendly and fast - we were back on the road in no time! Thank you, Papa Buck's!

As an Atlantan driving to the coast, you drive through several hours of middle Georgia nothingness along the way and your food options are either chain fast food spots or local hole-in-the-wall options. I prefer to go the later route when traveling so we stumbled upon this spot in Metter. It's located just off I-16 next to a BP gas station and when you find a food joint next to a gas station, you know you've either found a diamond in the rough or you'll be living in the bathroom for the next 12-24 hours. Luckily, this fared more towards the first. It's a very small joint with maybe 10-12 tables and the decor screams "BBQ joint, but make it middle Georgia style" - I found it to be kind of cute and add to the overall vibe. The service was very quick and the menu is condensed enough where it won't take you long to figure out what you want. Apparently this place also has a BBQ challenge that's like 4lbs of food that you have to finish in less than 45 minutes?? I wasn't prepared for that route so we both went with a traditional BBQ plate. Overall, the food is good. The pork is tender and the sides ranged from decent to DAMN. Don't sleep on the potato salad, it was by far the best side item (it was really creamy with a touch of dill). The sweet and smoky BBQ sauce was a home run so I highly recommend that. The prices are also reasonable and we were out the door for around $25 for two people. If you're making the I-16 trek and looking for a quick and cheap lunch, I would absolutely recommend stopping here vs Dairy Queen down the road for better food, service, and ambiance.
